What a blast at the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City working at the NMC tent. We had many children join us for painting activities and fun tattoos!
In June 2024 I transitioned into the position of Secretary for the MiAEYC Governing Board. The next two years will bring many exciting and new experiences. I am very thankful to serve the early childhood community through this role.
In May 2024 I was very fortunate to return to Italy to visit early childhood settings. It was another wonderful experience hosted by Cozy & Flourish/Cheryl Priest. We met more fabulous teachers and children. Children in these settings are so engaged, they don't have a lot of time for conflicts! Let's talk more about this experience. In April 2024 I had the pleasure of presenting twice at the MiAEYC conference in Grand Rapids, MI. I presented along with Dianna Erickson from the T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship program about the CDA cohorts offered at NMC. I also did a solo presentation about supportive and inclusive environments for all ages. Over 200 participants joined at the Providing Supportive Environments presentation. It was a presentation based on audience participation and discussion, along with hands on activities.
It was a fabulous two days of collaboration with kindred spirits!
The CDA opportunities are endless at Northwestern Michigan College! This summer we are branching out again to offer a specialized class for CTE teachers who are teaching CTE early childhood courses.
Here's the year round schedule:
Summer 2024 CTE CDA: June-July.
Summer CDA Intensive: This is a three week intensive, meeting face-to-face Monday-Friday for
three weeks. Super intense, but students get their 120 hours is 3 weeks. This course runs the
last two weeks of July and the first week of August. (Dates vary year to year.)
Fall CDA: This is a hybrid class of face-to-face and online. We meet every other week at the
Wexford-Missaukee ISD. The opposite week is completed independently online. At the end of
semester, students have earned their 9 credits and are ready for their verification visit and
exam.
Spring CDA: This is a hybrid class of zoom meetings and online. We meet every other week in
zoom. The opposite week is completed independently online. NO winter driving! At the end of
semester the students have earned their 9 credits and are ready for their verification visit and
exam.
All students enrolled in a CDA cohort are given credit for ECE101, ECE204, and ECE290B. The cohort work also meets the 120 hours of professional education in the 8 subject areas required by the Council for Professional Recognition.
