The Italian Way - 2023

An amazing way to learn!

There is so much to talk about from this fabulous early childhood Italian tour! Children were engaged and learning.

Social-emotional and cognitive development soared!

We visited early childhood sites in Fano, Cavriago, and Reggio Emilia. We also toured the Malaguzzi Center in Reggio Emilia.

Ateliers

Ateliers are the spaces where children explore, play, and develop deep learning. Ateliers are born of children's interests and curiosities. Each room, or atelier, has it's own focus with a variety of open-ended materials to spark children's ideas. There are only a few examples shown here. A few ateliers that we experienced with children: Lights/Shadows, Construction, Clothing, Travel, and Botany.

Lights and Shadows Atelier

Lights and Shadows Atelier

The atelier of light and shadows was my favorite! Children used projectors and a variety of materials to experiment with shadows. They built cities with blocks while also projecting their creations onto the walls. They used tumbling equipment to view their own and their friends' shadows in motion. Amazing work by these preschoolers!

Atelier of Botany

Lights and Shadows Atelier

The children at the Gallizi Preschool in Fano really know how to garden. The have an entire room, an atelier, dedicated to growing many kinds of plants. The children's work with plants can be seen throughout the school and in outside garden areas.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning is a priority! It's not just recess once or twice a day.  The outside environment provides for many atelier experiences throughout the day. In this picture young preschoolers play in the mud. I mean really play IN the mud.  It was a full body experience for children and teachers!  (This picture was intentionally taken from a distance so that children could not be identified.)

Let's talk!

There's so much to share about this one-of-kind experience! Let's get together and talk!
